Due to Perth’s drying climate and increasing population, it’s now more important than ever to conserve our precious water resources.
The Water Corporation is currently running a range of programs to help the Western Australian community reduce their water use including the H2ome Smart program which has been run in the North West and Great Southern regions, and is now being run in the Perth Metropolitan area and trialled in Geraldton.
What is H2ome Smart?
H2ome Smart is a joint initiative between the Water Corporation and the Federal Government, and is a completely free, and completely voluntary, 12 month program aimed at helping households to reduce water use and encourage water efficiency.
The program commenced in August 2011 and is due to be complete in August of 2012.
The current program is only available to a select group of households in the following target suburbs:
- Perth North: Beldon, Carine, Edgewater, Greenwood, Hillarys, Mullaloo, Sorrento, Woodvale
- Perth South: Canning Vale, Kardinya, Leeming, Murdoch, North Lake, O'Connor, Parkwood, Samson, Thornlie, Winthrop
What do participating households receive?
Participating households are being individually coached and supported through the program to help reduce water use. Aspects of the program include:
- Free information to assist households to understand water use and saving water in and around the home
- A free shower timer
- Personalised feedback on household water use and reductions to let participants know how much water they have been saving since they have been on the program
- Targeted action plan to help save water
- The chance to win prizes including a home water audit and vouchers for waterwise products and appliances.
- Plus, if you are a pensioner you may be eligible for the free supply and installation of a water efficient showerhead, up to two tap aerators and have any visible water leaks repaired.
Program success to date
We are about to commence the fourth of six rounds of interactions with over 11,500 households. So far we have received overwhelming support and interest from the community, with many households becoming aware of leaks or unsustainable water use through habitual behaviour.
Help the program become more sustainable!
If you are you a participant in the Perth H2ome Smart program you can help the program become more sustainable by receiving your water use feedback via email instead of post.
If you would like to switch to feedback e-mails, then please use the Contact Form to email the team with “Please switch my feedback letters from letters to e-mails” in the Message and make sure you include the following important information to ensure that the team can accurately identify your registration:
- Your full name
- Your postal (street) address
- Your Water Corporation account number ( this can be found on your latest H2ome Smart letter or water consumption account).
Remember you can always print your online feedback letter at home and stick it on the fridge to act as a reminder about your new agreed actions for this round!
How can I do my part if I can’t register?
Even though registrations for Perth H2ome Smart are now closed you can still save water in your own home and garden.
The Water Corporation offers some great advice on how you can reduce your water use in and around your home through a range of resources available for free from the Water Corporation website.
